Our parishioners are preparing for our Annual Turkey Dinner on October 10th. This event is the largest fundraiser supporting our parish. Chairpersons have already held meetings and a work list has been completed. The women of the parish are buying baking supplies as well as bingo prizes, silent auction prizes and country store prizes. Of courses the children are excited to see what kind of prizes will be available at the children’s games. Our meal this year will be as satisfying as it always. We will serve the traditional turkey and dressing with all the trimmings—green beans, yams, cranberry sauce, howt rolls, giblet gravy and of course ict tea. Our raffle chairmen have the raffle tickets and are giving them to parishioners to sell. The prizes are very nice—the first prize being $3000. Auction prizes are also being collected—the crowd enjoys the auctioneer and trying to outbid each other on the different and sometimes unusual prizes Some of our parishioners make items from mesquite wood, as well as quilts, antiques, garden gadgets, etc. Also included in the prizes are homemade pies, cakes, pastries and much more. This auction will be held in the air conditioned diner, so we will be comfortable. The men who cook the turkeys are making sure they have all the equipment they need and buying whatever they need. They know that they have to set the wood on fire early enough to put the turkeys on about 2PM. Tamales will also be sold during the day. Tours of our beautiful church and museum will be available, and genealogists will be on hand to help anyone trying to learn more about their family history.
